There are many misconceptions attached with istijaarah such as:

Whenever a person faces a difficult problem, or hesitates to make a decision and his knowledge of the subject is insufficient to guide him then, after seeking the advice of trusted friends is due to turn to God and beg his grace. Whenever the advice is to look for a respectable and experienced person, it is expected that he will give good advice and help to the best of his ability. In the same way istijaarah is to seek counsel that the all-knowing and all-merciful Allah? Once he becomes istijaarah then Allah, the Most High will surely guide him to do what is best for him.

Now there can be no confusion. Only what God wants is what God wants and what is good for himself, even if he can not see it immediately.
